Visual Dialect Archive

Are you a native speaker of another language?

We are currently in Phase 1 of launching the Visual Accent & Dialogue Archive. We need user-contributed videos of English-language accents and dialects from around the globe. Here's how you can help:

• Create up to three different video recordings, each of which demonstrates a different aspect of your accent or dialect. You can choose to complete one, two or all three of these recordings.
  • Record a Story
  • Record a List of Words
  • Record the Rainbow Passage
• Upload your recorded videos to YouTube.com. You may have to create an account first. (Read more about how to upload your video to YouTube.com.)
• Tag all of your videos with the tag "visalect" — this will allow your videos to be viewed on the VADA website. (Read more about how to tag your videos.)
• If you are interviewing a Dialect/Accent Donor please download the permission form and return to lwsmiley@umd.edu.

Are you an IPA expert, a linguist or language scholar?

You are invited to add your perspective on the videos already here. You can join the team as a contributor, and then you will be able to add phonetic and linguistic information to the video content.
